Fowey Hall on the South Cornish coast sits in a spectacular location at the very top of the sailing and fishing port of Fowey - within its original walled gardens and with commanding views of the River estuary and far out to sea. The town and the local sandy cove at Readymoney are both a short walk from the hotel, and Fowey Hall is within easy reach of the many superb attractions in Cornwall, including The Eden Project which is a ten minute drive away.
Built by a former Lord Mayor of London, Sir Charles Hanson, this Queen Anne Chateau inspired Cornish Mansion, was completed in 1899 in very fashionable style - rich architectural detailing, Baroque plasterwork, vaulted ceilings, exotically wood panelled public rooms, and elaborate fireplaces. It must have been quite a shock to the tranquil fishing village community of Fowey, and during its time as home to the Hanson family, it regularly welcomed royal visitors. French furniture, specially woven Wilton carpets and stylish touches, and today the house now welcomes everyone. Fowey Hall sits at the top of Fowey town within its original walled five acre gardens, and enjoys spectacular views of the estuary and sea, but the greatest asset we believe is the warmth and friendliness within. Rooms are located in the Main House and The Court, which is the original coach house, just one minute's walk from the main building.
Food is simple and classic, using only the very best Cornish produce, with an emphasis on fish and seafood. Lobsters from our own tank and oysters and mussels received fresh daily from the Fowey River oyster farm just below in the estuary. Hansons restaurant is a wonderful combination of the original oak panelled dining room once used by the family it is named after, blended cleverly with the addition of a light modern space with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the croquet lawn. Lunch is served in The Palm Court which opens directly onto the terrace, perfect for watching the world sail by on a sunny day and is the setting for the hotel’s famous summer BBQ's.
If you so wish you may also treat yourselves to some pampering during your stay in the privacy and comfort of your own room: Choose from treatments such as Aromatherapy massage, Remedial/Sports massage, Swedish massage, Indian head massage, Reflexology, Hot stone treatment & Reiki.
Children are also particularly welcome at Fowey Hall and especially to the Four Bears Den, where infants and the under eights are cared for and entertained by our team of qualified nannies. (This may be of particular help to young families whom wish to enjoy a Classic Car Break, but do not wish to leave the family for too long). The den is open everyday of the year from 10.00am until 4.45pm for supervised fun and games. There are lots of activities for older children too; table tennis, table football, computer games and a plasma screen TV in The Cooks room for movies (shown nightly during school holidays). Within the grounds, there is an indoor swimming pool, a wooden play area, a big trampoline and plenty of lawn games.
