This beautiful Grade II listed Rectory is where Thomas Hardy fell in love. Explore the north coastline of Cornwall in your classic car and unwind in this historical home.
The Grade II listed Old Rectory at St Juliot, Boscastle is in a perfect setting overlooking the Valency valley and from the decking in the garden you can see the sea. The building is full of history and is where Thomas Hardy stayed as a young architect and met and fell in love with Emma Lavinia Gifford. The romance led to the novel "A Pair of Blue Eyes", and to some of his finest poetry.
The house has been updated and decorated in period style. It is centrally heated throughout. Guests have their own Sitting Room which they can use during the day with seasonal log fires. All rooms have wifi access, and beautiful views.
The walled garden supplies ample fresh fruit and vegetables in season, as well as free range eggs. Breakfast, cooked on an Aga, is served in the Entrance Hall and consists of a wide range of Cornish produce including home made marmalade and preserves.
Exploring this part of Cornwall in your classic car will take you to some tucked away beaches and coves. Driving along the coast towards Crackington Haven, Widemouth and Bude in a classic British sportscar is heaven. If you choose a soft top now is the time to put the roof down and feel the wind in your hair as you enjoy the coastal views and villages along the way. Boscastle and Tintagel are interesting places to visit with lots of history and walks to enjoy. During the autumn months the colours of the National Trust woodland are simply stunning and in spring the daffodils and primroses that line the hedgerows are some of the first in England.
