Built in 1794 as a coaching inn at the opening of the trans-moor turnpike, the property was originally called 'The Saracen's Head'. It only gained its present name in the early 1900's with the modern road being completed in 1931.
The hotel has 33 individually furnished en-suite rooms all with colour satellite television, clock radio, direct dial telephone, baby listening service and tea and coffee making facilities. Stay in one of the larger Historic Rooms which have traditional four poster beds and antique furniture. These rooms also enjoy trouser press, ironing centre and other little extras. (For that extra special occasion upgrades are available to stay in one of the Two Bridge’s Premier Rooms!)
The Two Bridges Hotel is an ideal base from which to visit Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake, Widecombe-in-the-Moor of 'Uncle Tom Cobley' fame, Becky Falls, Buckfast Abbey, a working Benedictine Monastery and the infamous Dartmoor prison. However, ambling the lanes in your very own classic car may set the tempo of your visit to this beautiful area. With over 200 granite 'tors' to see you are spoilt for choice. Especially popular is Hound Tor at Grimspound - the setting for Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Hound of the Baskervilles'.... All in all a country break to remember.
