October 2007
Having agonised over application forms tourism businesses in Cornwall have spent the last few months trying to spot mystery visitors, waiting with baited breath for news that they have been shortlisted in the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2007.
But the wait is over, the scores are in and the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2007 shortlist has been announced. More than 100 entries across 15 award categories have been put through a rigorous judging process which saw them scrutinized and discussed by an extensive panel, headed up by experienced industry professionals.
Three businesses in each of the categories, from Hotel of the Year to Cornish Distinctiveness, have made the final shortlist demonstrating excellence in their field. Rob Constant, awards stalwart and founder of Cornwall Classic Car Hire, has been recognised in the Leisure Pursuits of the Year category for the last three years. Clearly knowing what makes a winning business he was this year among those judging the awards and is enthusiastic about the quality of entries: “It was a real pleasure to help judge some of the categories in the Cornwall Tourism Awards and to find out about the great work that is being done in the tourism sector across Cornwall. The quality of entries clearly showed that businesses in Cornwall have a real passion for the county and take pride in offering a first-class holiday experience.”
Plans are now in full swing for the Grand Awards Dinner on Thursday 22nd November at the Headland Hotel, Newquay, when the winners will be announced and crowned category champions.
Teresa Timms of VisitCornwall, the award organisers, comments: “With the Cornwall Tourism Awards now in its sixth year many businesses are defending the titles which they have won in previous years. But what’s really encouraging is that this year we have seen lots of businesses who have entered for the first time – making for an exciting awards night but also proving that the quality of tourism in Cornwall is improving.”
Leading travel commentator, Simon Calder, The Independent’s Travel Editor and Presenter of BBC’s Holiday programme, will be presenting the awards and entertaining guests with a pre-dinner speech where he will share his experience of years of international travel.
